Some remarks on the current, very nice improvements :-)

Since -rc3, suspend-to-ram works reliably, the
- -hrt patchset still broke it, but now also
works flawlessly, AFAIKT.

On my 82852/82855 GM (Thinkpad R50e, 18348RG)
the number of wakeups caused by 3d-accelerated graphics,
usb and net (all on one interrupt) has fallen
dramatically. It used to "echo" the wakeups of the
disk and about everything. Idling, it did some
5-6 wakeups in X, 1.4 without.
Now it is idling at .5 in X, and it does no more
scale with next to all activities,
but only kicks in on its very own businesses...
Quite a bit better than I thought
was possible. Now, a none too idle X setup
(adsl active, couple shells, usb driver loaded...)
idles at 5-6 wakeups altogether. Rejoice!

The wakeups of the mouse driver seem more moderate
while in use as well.

In the "strange noteworthy" section, we have firefox after
a suspend (both to ram and disk).
While causing a varying, rather high number of wakeups
with a couple tabs open, typically some 40,
it used to remain that way until closed.
Now, after a suspend, it seems not to cause any wakeups
at all, even if viewed, until actually doing something in it.

In total wakeups, it gives me an idling desktop
below 10 wakeups even while i have thunderbird
open to write this mail :-)

Streaming raw audio to disk from the soundcard
used to be rather fragile, other disk I/O used
to cause overruns, now, it streams very nicely
and robustly.

Plus, the screensaver kills the backlights as well when
blanking out since a while now, dramatically reducing
power consumption from 10.5 to 7.2 W. This breaks after
playing a video with mplayer, and comes back after
suspending. The screensaver kicks in all by itself.
(Meaning I never configured it to. Meaning I don't know
the handle for userspace control. Can someone tell?)

Awesome improvements in many a corner.
Thanks to the intel devs, kernel devs, tglx devs,

Andre
