Wow, certainly more than expected !? Did you have 550 WPS attributed to "nvidia" before the change ? Nvidia's supposed to wake up once per screen refresh : I had 60 WPS (and yes, the xorg driver option reduces them drastically). Unless nvidia was interacting with something else on your system ?
