I've keept my .config the same as with the previous kernel's and there was
no problem; under Power management options it looks like this:

[*] Power Management support
[ ] Legacy Power Management API (DEPRECATED)
[*] Suspend to RAM and standby
[*] Hibernation (aka 'suspend to disk')
 () Default resume partition
[*] ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) support --->
<>APM (Advanced Power Management) BIOS support --->
     CPU Frequency scaling     --->
[*] CPU idle PM support

##########and what my acpi .config looks like:

--- ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) Support
  [ ] Deprecated /proc/acpi files
  [*] Deprecated power /proc/acpi directories
  [*] Future power /sys interface
  [*] Deprecated /proc/acpi/event support
<M> AC Adapter

<M> Thermal Zone
<M> WMI (EXPERIMENTAL)

<*> Read Custom DSDT from initramfs
( 0 ) Disable ACPI for systems before jan 1st this year
 [ ] Debug Statements
{M} ACPI0004,PNP0A05 and PNP0A06 Container Driver (EXPERIMENTAL)

Does this have something to due with the acpi monitoring?
any advice would be helpful
