One of the suggestions as per Powertop is:
-----
Suggestion: Disable or remove 'gnome-power-manager' from your system.
Older versions of gnome-power-manager wake up far more often than
needed costing you some power.
-----
This has just started out of nowhere for me at least. After a little
research I see that this used to happen last year with Powertop and
the Gutsy Gnome Power Manager. Has this resurfaced under the radar
with a recent update of GPM? I do not remember seeing it before.

Versions on Ubuntu 8.04.1:

uname -a
Linux Xxxx 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Jun 18 14:15:37 UTC 2008
x86_64 GNU/Linux

dpkg -l
ii gnome-power-manager 2.22.1-1ubuntu4
ii powertop 1.9-2ubuntu1

Regards,
Dan
