Hello,

On a video from a conference I downloaded from the Internet Matthew
Garrett said that the reason for the Kernel IPI Rescheduling interrupts
showing up in powertop is because of a problem in the kernel scheduler
trying to balance the load between several cores or CPUs.

The thing is, in my laptop with an Intel Core Duo T2400 at 1.83 GHz it
is a constant problem when idle and it gets worse when the load
increases. It all gets solved if I deactivate the dual core from the
BIOS. This is running Fedora Rawhide with the latest updates.

But my desktop system, a Dell XPS 420 with an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 at
2.40 GHz, this is not a problem when idle, it doesn't show up in
powertop and it barely increases when the load increases. This is
running Fedora 9 with the latest updates.

So, why is this? is it because the laptop has an older CPU (Core 1
generation)??

echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/sched_mc_power_savings doesn't seem to
improve the situation.

Cheers,

-William
