In particular, the absolutely mandatory GV 2.5 modem upgrade has yet to be
found (a kind soul loaned me a copy so I could restore a PPC-upgraded 540c to
full operation).
And the purportedly "optional" GV 2.5.5 modem upgrade is actually mandatory
with 2.5, otherwise 2.5 won't work on a PPC-upgraded machine.
Peter ... owner of two Apple PPC-upgraded 540cs (100 MHz [ * ] ), one
Newertech PPC-upgraded 540c (117 MHz [ ** ] ), one 520c with a 540c CPU and a
PCMCIA card cage, and one "bare bones" 520.
P.S. Did I mention that I really like the 500 series ;-)
[ * ] True speed is 3 * 33.3333 MHz, or 99.99 MHz.
[ ** ] True speed is 3.5 * 33.3333 MHz, or 116.67 MHz.
