On the off chance that anyone cares I thought I'd post about my upgraded PB5300c. When I bought via e-Bay it had 32Mb of RAM and a 772Mb HD. I first upgraded the RAM, replacing a 16Mb RAM module with a 48Mb module. This brought the total up to 64Mb, the max. That was a few weeks ago. The only problem I had was the module was defective but was replaced easily. A couple of days ago I replaced the HD with a 20Gb. There was a bit of a problem with this. The newer drives have a differenet mounting hole spacing which allows for a larger platter. The mounting bracket however didn't have holes for the new drive. A little drilling and such and it fit. The bracket that is. I drilled the new holes at the same level as the original but with screws in these positions the palm rest wouldn't fit. I drilled new holes moving the drive down in the bracket. This provided clearance for the palm rest. After this everything went back together okay. At first I was planning on partitioning the drive into one large partition for most stuff, several smaller partitions for CD-ROM images and a couple for Linux. Instead I created one large partition and left space for Linux. I'm just going to setup DiskCopy image files for CD-ROMs. One of the reasons for going with a large disk was that I could copy CD-ROMs onto it since the PB5300 doesn't have a CD-ROM drive. So far I've tried it with Street Atlas USA and it works okay. This is my first Mac with an IDE drive so the concept of a very large disk for relatively little money is wierd. But I can get use to it. I bought the RAM from <http://www.memoryx.com> for $107. They seem to have a lot of specialized Mac RAM at pretty good prices. I bought the 20Gb HD from <http://www.macsales.com> (OtherWorld Computing) for $115. -- Clark Martin Redwood City, CA, USA Macintosh / Internet Consulting [EMAIL PROTECTED] "I'm a designated driver on the Information Super Highway" -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
