I have no experience with the 1400, but with the 5300. I would highly
reccomend either the GV 56k modem/ethernet or the GV Platinum 28.8k/ethernet
(flash upgradeable to 36.6). sadly they are discontinued, but can be had on
an auction site for under $50 US.
