OS 8.6 is a free download from Apple. Keeping it at OS 8.6 is highly
recommended for reasons of stability.

Personally I'd reformat the disk and install OS 8.6 (see above). Unless
you have a specific reason for multiple OSes there is no reason for having
them and a few reasons for only having one System Folder.

Software development environment. Unless your kindergartners are REAL
advanced you don't need it (for them at least).
