Hi Yes My Mac is a 540c i use Netscape 3.0 for web and i was useing microsoft 3.1 mail client a very old e-mail tool.
I received an E-mail with ref to the 5xx stuff that i had posted for sale (Free to good home) I have posted it on this list and in a number of papers in the Uk. The E-mail read ( with ref to the items that you have advertised) do you have any of these see att" I Then double clicked on the attachment and the screen of my 540c went black i then got a message Got You. And the Mac shut down as if i had pulled the plug without the battery in. Thinking that it had crashed i started it back up to see the flashing disk and ?. So i booted it from the os 8 cd and it didn't see the HDD. I tried every tool i could booting from floppy etc and cd nothing I had to link it to an external hdd and boot it and use charis mounter to get it to read the disk then i had to initialise the disk and reload the software back on.
