Thanks Kaldav for filling in some of the gaps, and to fill in a few more I'll
add.

IIRC, to reset the PowerManager on the PB 5300, remove the main battery and
the ac adapter. Press and hold the reset button for 30-60 seconds. The reset
button in by the i/o ports on the back.

You will have to reset the Date & Time as this also resets the PRAM. If you
wish to save the total hours run, use TechTools to save a copy of the PRAM
before and then add it back after. A very low total hours _may_ indicate a
dead pram battery. It could just indicate a reset PRAM with out a save.

If the 5300 has been sitting around for much more that a month, it is very
likely that the PRAM battery has discharged completely. They are
rechargeable, but they do die. IF, after you have left the 5300 plugged in
over night, but that you find that removing the main battery and ac adapter
for 10 minutes causes the date to be lost, then the PRAM battery is dead.

See above.

Thank you, I forgot how frustrating it waws tofigure that out.

You must also change the AppleTalk CP _everytime_ you insert the GV PC card
and want to use it. The AT CP will otherwise revert to default. I leave a
alias of the AT CP on the desktop for easy access and as a reminder.

I have the GV 56k card and it generates too much heat to be left in all the
time,YMMV, so I insert the card only as needed. With Macs you only need the
file sharing enabled on the "from" Mac, and the cables can be connected hot.
With PCs I have no clue.

I have moved over to a Pismo, but the 5300 still has a favored spot in my
heart. It was the laptop that I cut my teeth on after coming back to
computing. I have even gone so far as to connect to the web by cell phone.

There are plenty of 5300 users on this list, with lots of good experience, so
enjoy your 5300!
