I was able to sync my Palm by IR to a G3 Wall St. using OS 8.6 and all I needed to do was to install the latest Palm Desktop software version 2.6.3 and you should be off to the races. You may need to tell the Palm Desktop sync software to us the IR port on that powerbook instead of the serial port. You may also need to upgrade from 8.1 to 8.6 on that 1400.
