I have a Powerbook 3400, which I use for those purposes, and for some light
audio work.  It's a fine machine, and I recommend it highly.  BUT..... you
MUST make sure that the PB he gets has a ram upgrade inside it!  16 mb is
just not enough!  I currently have the 48 mb card, and still feel a bit ram
challenged at 64mb total ram.

Just a suggestion.
