Did you perhaps disable the 3400 modem/ethernet extension? And/or in
reinstalling your OS did you make sure the modem/ethernet extension
specifically for the 3400 is there. On the 3400 there is a combined card for
the modem and ethernet. Without the extension either one or both fail to
work. I don't recall the exact name of the extension though.
