Hi there Dave,
Well, what you have there is Apple's finest laptop design until they got
to the G3 Wall Street. The AAUI plug in the back will support full
10baseT ethernet over RJ-45 cable but also can be hooked up to almost
all of the other network wiring varients by way of Apple AAUI adaptors.
I've even read about (but never seen) a Fiber connector. I've seen the
SCSI adaptors available in CompUSA and they can be had from almost any
Mac shop and on line. If you have problems tracking one down let me
know. If you get an external Hard Drive you will indeed have lots of
fun. That little unit can do about 70% of what a server of its day could
do and more hard drive space is always nice to have. The external video
adaptor should be able to support 640 X 480 in Thousands of colors no
problem but unfortunately those adaptors are a bit overexpensive. I
guard the one I use very carefully. I believe the unit will also support
multi-sync monitors up to 800 X 600 screen size in 256 colors also. This
should work with even run of the mill Sony and NEC monitors so long as
you have those cheap little (no switches needed) VGA to RGB plug
adaptors. They used to give them away for free with NEC monitors. You
can also plug in an full size Apple ADB Keyboard which is dirt cheap and
a regular Apple ADB mouse.
The Serial port will support a 56K modem also if you want to use one.

Since you're short on hard drive space I recommend installing System
7.6.1 instead of 8.1 and then you should have enough room for Netscape
4.05 and MS-Word 6.0.1/95. I have these installers.

Hi all,
I am a Mac novice and was recently given a PowerBook 520. I bought a
power adapter through eBay for it and was able to get it up and running.

Seems to have a 25 MGH Motorola processor 8.1 OS and a maybe a 120 MB
hard Drive. The more I discover about it the more intrigued I get, I
just ordered a AAUI transceiver to try to connect it to a RJ45 then to
my internet cable. I was wondering if I should get an external 9GB SCSI

Hard Drive that I see all over EBay, but then I need to hunt down a SCSI

adapter from my Power book. I was able to find a Apple color Monitor
that I may be able to plug the Power Book into if once again I can find
a video connector for it. I wondered did they ever make a docking
station for this model. The problem I see is that I have no room on my
hard drive to install Netscape or Internet explorer without using
external storage. Is this worth the learning experience or am I taking
a laptop and converting it to a desktop? I wondered what places are out

there with downloads (preferably free) All I have on this is MS Word5.1.

Thanks
Dave
