Anyone have any experience with Virtual PC or Softwindows on a Pre-G3
Powerbook? I've thought about trying an older version like VPC 2.1 or
something. If it will work what kind of memory requirements are we looking at
as well as HDD space? I want to use my Powerbook for work, but have some Win
only programs that I'd have to use (They want to give me an old 486 laptop to
use, but I'd rather use my Powerbook).

Hello--

I use VPC 2 on my PB 1400 with 64 MB of RAM. I installed it when I had the
166 MHz 603 processor & use Windoze95. (I now have a G3 Sonnet upgrade.) It
seems just as fast as the Mac side--programs take a longer time to startup
compared to our Performa at 180 MHz, but they run fine. The total size is
800MB--the C drive is 255MB, and the PC-DOS file says 260MB in the title and
512MB in the finder. I have Word, some shareware and an Astrology program in
the VPC. This is not a job related use, but some practical advise about
using VPC can be found at MacWindows.com. I actually spent a long time
"tweaking" the setup to find the optimum situation. I printed out lots of
the website and some more from Connectrix, & highlighted parts before I was
done. I'm satisfied with the way it works now, but I don't use it often.

Good Luck!

Tony
Why I hate Microshit
MS has been found GUILTY of placing sabotage code in Windows. They made
computer manufacturers pay for a Windows license even if the manufacturer
didn't want to put Windows on a computer. They spent millions to develop a
browser and give it away; all to undermine Netscape. If you don't understand
why a company can't crush a competitor in this way; read up on anti trust
law. They did the crime, now they should pay the time.
