Actually that makes you quite a newbie, there, Tim, since sending TCP/IP 
packets by carrier pigeon was first documented only last year:

True, the protocol was first proposed 12 years ago 
(http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1149.txt?number=1149 ) but there were 
certain technical hurdles to be overcome before actual implementation.

(attaining the proper beer:unix geek:pigeon fancier ratio was rumored to 
be the crucial breakthrough )
