This has happened in the past, and it seems to have come back. I've been
using my ethernet card to get online. Now that I've switched back to my
modem, I no longer can connect to my dial-up account. It seems to work when
I don't have the ethernet card (a farallon ethermac 595 card) in any slots.
But when I stick the card in while I'm connected, I get disconnected, and
when I stick the card in and try to dial in to my account, I get a range of
errors from the server is not responding properly to I need to
configure/reset/etc my modem (a viking 56k pc card) to just hanging after
dialing or hanging after starting PPP. I know it's not the modem card
because it works just fine in my Pismo.
The last time this happened, I broke down and wiped my hard drive which made
it work. Now it's back, but this time I have a replacement pc card bay
assembly. I've tried replacing the driver with the one Viking has on their
site to no avail. The disk that came with the card is dead. Is this a
hardware issue I could solve by replacing the pccard assembly, or is it
software? If it is software- I can't switch slots with the 2 cards because
"the software is not installed"; What files/preferences can I
reinstall/delete to get my 1400 running again without wiping the drive
again?
