My advice is to search out a 32 meg ram upgrade, and run 8.1, no RAM 
Doubler. I've been quite pleased with the performance of 8.1 on mine.

Might be as simple as the Apple CD extensions. Make sure those are 
installed.

If you can see the drive when it's plugged in without terminators, it's 
not a termination problem. More likely it's a driver problem.

DB25 and DB50 terminators are no different in this case.
