I think what he meant was that you need a terminator at the other end of the chain and that a pass-through one would work for you. From my own experience you need, not want - _need_, and active terminator when using external SCSI devices. You also _need_ a device that provides termination power as well. Without either of those you get the nice flashing floppy on the screen when you try and boot with devices connected.
