In 9, as someone has mentioned, you can set recent doc and apps folders to
0. In 8, you can also just move those folders out of the Apple menu folder
in the system folder. If you just want to delete those particular docs, just
allow the folder to open from the Apple menu and delete the aliases. New
ones will be produced as you work.

I never used this feature so it was one of the first things I disabled, both
in 8 and 9.
