Can't help on Linux, but...
1. Partitioning - use Apple's Drive Setup. You have to wipe the drive 
entirely, but you can then set up individual Linux, HFS+, DOS, whatever, 
partitions as big as your HD can stand. Easy to do via 'Customize' 
dialogue.

2. All Macs (well, virtually all, which means yours) will boot off any 
storage device. You can put a boot CD in and hold down 'C' (a bootable 
floppy will boot automatically if in the drive) or hold down 
Cmd-Shift-Option-Delete to boot off a drive other than the startup 
volume. This could be a CD, CDRW, Zip, Jaz, ext. HD, even tape or Syquest.

Another alternative is, if you have a bootable system already, simply 
insert the boot CD and select it as startup in the Startup Disk control 
panel.

[with Macs, there're always at least three ways of doing things :-) Enjoy.
