I just put 8.6 on a 5300cs with a rather anemic 24 megs RAM (1 meg VM, no
ramdoubler or speeddoubler, but I may try them later); System takes up 9
megs, which is better than I thought it would- and that's the initial
install, I can still pare extensions down.
Goal is for this to work for light Dreamweaver, Fireworks, with occasional
Photoshop 5 imaging sessions (coffee provided while images are resizing :).
Dreamweaver needs 8.6.
So far it doesn't seem like it's punishing the laptop too badly.
Something I was reminded of: going from 8.1 to 8.6 is best done via clean
install. Otherwise you spend a LOT of time going back to a clean 8.1
system and starting over, when your 8.5 system doesn't even boot with
extensions disabled. I won't forget that checkbox again for a while...
