In an earnest attempt to get more battery life, I've been reducing the color depth on
my 5300c when I don't particularly need all those colors (i.e. while writing). Just
today, however, when I reduce it to 16 colors, the system freezes. This happens
whether using the control strip or the monitors/sound control panel, and only when
switching to 16 colors--if I switch to 4 colors, or 256 colors, or b&w, etc., no
problem. I tried running Norton Disk Doctor, zapping PRAM and trashing the Monitors
and Sound prefs--no effect. Not a terribly pressing problem since I can just use the
4 color setting, but all the same, does anyone have ideas as to what's up? I'm using
OS 8.1, 40 mb RAM.
