This is probably not the definitive answer you were looking for, but I've never heard of anyone putting a fan in a PowerBook 5300. Hard drives can get hot, you can feel the heat on the top and bottom of the 5300, but that's ok. Hard drives don't last forever, of course, but they are sold with warranties... I once saw a kind of laptop cushion for sale that had three fans on it. What a pity! One of the nice things about these fanless machines is how quiet they are compared to most desktops. Let the hard drive spin down frequently, and you are working in blissful silence.
