Yup, should be very possible.  Your cable company will
likely supply you with a cable modem.  The cable wire
comes from your wall and plugs into the back of the
modem (just like you'd plug into a TV) and the Modem
also has an RJ45 Ethernet port on the back which you
in turn connect to your laptop...

So, to generalize it, you can certainly connect a
cable modem to your 5300... you just need to have an
ethernet card installed.
