I don't know if this is a stupid question, since I am new to macs in general, but someone emailed me offlist (actually, several people, who were all most helpfull -- thanks again!) and mentioned (as did others) that I needed to buy the disk for 8.5 as well as 9.0, but they also kinda sorta suggested that I could just install 9.0 straight off the CD from 8.1 and skip upgrading to 8.5/6 -- is this correct?
It certainly *would* be nice if apple would just put a downloadable version of 8.5/6 on their site, since they're quite clear on the "we don't sell it or support it" aspect of it. thanks again, Hope ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bruce Johnson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PowerBooks" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, May 27, 2002 10:37 AM Subject: Re: macOS 8.5 downloadable update? > hope and the anchor wrote: > > so after some tweaking and looking around on the apple.com site, I finally > > got around to downloading and installing 8.1 (from a stock 8.0 install on a > > 3400c) and was about to install 8.5.1 when I notice I need 8.5 installed > > first...searching all over the apple.com site gives me no joy, and google > > didn't help either. can someone onlist point me in the right direction? > > NO such luck...8.5 was a paid update from 8.1, you'll need to dig up a > 8.5 cd.
