Such things exist, at least for Firewire. May be some for USB. For
instance:

The MicroTech FireSCSI Xpress ...US$ 85.95
The Microtech FireSCSI Xpress adapter enables existing and new high-speed
SCSI peripherals to be attached to the FireWire (IEEE -1394) port of a
Macintosh or Windows PC. The FireSCSI Xpress adapter uniquely blends the
high speed data transfer rate and the plug and play capabilities of
FireWire technology with the versatility of the SCSI interface to provide
easy to use, high performance, external peripheral connectivity. Ideal
for Apple G3/G4, iMac DV, or any FireWire equipped PC.. Windows
98SE/ME/2000.. Mac OS 9.0.4 or later

Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.
