Well I reformatted the drive Mac and left it blank. Booted 5300 with the scsi cd/rom disconnected and no cable either. I assume this would deal with any termination issues. Powered up with just the basic 8.1 on floppy. Get same happy face, beginning of OS and then the same bus error.
