Many thanks for the input, especially to Ken Norris for his detailed accounting of what went right and what went wrong. My procrastination has paid off as Costco has a $10 discount on your choice of 128MB SmartMedia or CompactFlash. I am left with a couple of questions, however:
1) Despite various testamonials that the limited number of write cycles to CompactFlash is a non-issue, does the SmartMedia have the same issues? and 2) Has anyone used SmartMedia instead of CompactFlash in a PCMCIA carrier as Virtual Memory on a 1400? TIA (I'm less inclined to use TIA for "thanks in advance" since becoming aware of and suspected of having "transient ischemic attacks" or "mini-strokes."
