Hello PowerBook List-ners, I've literally hacked into the innards of older Macs for years, but found that when it came to PowerBooks I needed to be a bit more careful not to break delicate plastic parts.
Having just received a PowerBook 5300 in need of some repair, this time I decided to wait and get the Apple Tech Manual CD to tell me how to do the job right the first time. The CD (found on eBay) was EXCELLENT! I was able to run it on a PB1400c set up right behind the project table where I worked on the 5300. The CD took me step-by-step into the PowerBook and helped me to remove only the parts I needed in order to get the job done. I replaced the trackpad with palm rests, added a Ram Card, and replaced the keyboard safely- all without any damage to the 'Book in the process. I spent just under $20 for the CD including shipping and handling. Money well spent in my opinion. Just thought you all might want to know this resource is available to you and it covers most all Apple Macs, printers, scanners and MORE! The CD says it requires 8.6 to run the Acrobat Reader installer, but I ran it w/7.5.3 and used an older version of Acrobat Reader already installed. It worked just fine and now I have two PowerBooks instead of just the one. Mister H -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
