Truer words were never spoken (or in this case, written). However, there is
one way around this that I have used as a *gasp!* AOL customer who prefers
v 3.0 on his old 68k macs.

STEP 1 - Install AOL 3.0 from an old copy. But don't actually try to log on
with it yet.

STEP 2 - Ask your girlfriend to install AOL 3.0 on her machine (this of
course assumes that she also has a Mac!) Two ways to do this - either go to
Keyword "Upgrade" where she will find that it is also possible to
"downgrade" ... or use a higher version CD which often has 3.0 on it
somewhere. Either way, she need not fear that her current version of AOL
will be damaged in any way - all that will happen is that a separate 3.0
folder will be created.

STEP 3 - Copy the contents of the AOL 3.0 Online Files folder from your
girlfriend's Mac onto a disk - or onto multiple disks if necessary. It's
inside her AOL 3.0 folder. The folder *should* include files properly
configured with her previously-selected local access numbers. NOTE - You
can't just get this folder from anybody (like me for instance) because it
must be copied from Mac configured to the same AOL account you are trying
to log into.

STEP 4 - Replace your Online Files folder with the one you have copied off
her Mac.

STEP 5 - Log on. If all goes well your PB 190 should log in using your
girlfriend's access numbers.

P.S. If this works, I would also suggest that you hang onto that copied
Online Files folder so you can do this same switcheroo on any other 68k
Mac, or in case you need to re-install (a likely event ...).

P.P.S. Once you're set up, you can transfer all your old email and
favorites onto a new Mac by using this same technique to copy the AOL
preferences folder out of the System Folder.
