I'm guessing the (ta-daa) PRAM battery is no longer servicable. However, try this first, since the PRAM battery is a, uh, witch to replace and expensive to boot. Plug in the unit and leave it off. Reset the Power Manager by holding in that little button between the ADB and serial ports on the back. Some people have said it needs several hours or even overnight (!), so get something small and flat and wedge it in there for awhile.
