In regards to my book shutting down 1/2 split second after I get the low
power notice, I did find the fix which hopefully will help others here.

Apparently the Power Manager is bad or going bad. I replaced it with the
one from this spare unit and now I am given plenty of time to save a
document. Furthermore, the unit now simply goes to sleep until I insert
another battery or plug it in. Previously, any work not saved when it shut
down were lost and I had to completely restart the unit.
