OK folks, listen up:

1. I am not a Ratoc employee or engineer, so your best source of information
is from Ratoc, but

2. Apparently, this is the same Ratoc firewire PCMCIA card that is bundled
with the MCE cardbus/firewire upgrade as posted by "The Rock" (
http://store.powerbook1.com/mcecarupser.html ). Do some research on the site
and you'll SEE what they are using. Ordinarily, I would suggest that you
ask MCE about the matter, but I'd bet a buck they give you confounding
information (why should they give you the information that will save you $25
over their price?), so Ratoc is your best source for the info.

3. I don't think it is an issue of processor (pre-G3 vs. G3), but whether
the machine has a cardbus compliant PCMCIA -- that's where the "upgrade"
comes in.

I understand it is a very simple upgrade that anybody can do for themselves
~IF~ they know what to do, but since you don't know, then MCE has offered a
substantial benefit -- no matter how easy it is to accomplish -- at a
reasonable price.

If you want single-source responsibility for the upgrade and future
operation, then $25 is not too much to pay MCE for the luxury. If not, then
buy their $99 Cardbus upgrade and then get the CBFW2 from Ratoc at $89, and
you've saved the $25. If you've purchased a 3400 for under $200, the $215
upgrade cost from MCE is not too much to spend, and you'll have a slower
Firewire machine.

Got it?
