I tried to get my portable (520C upgraded with Newer to PPC 167 running

OS System 8.5) going last night and it wouldn't show anything on the
screen.

So i tried zapping the pram , but i couldn't get it to do that, after
numerous tries i thought i was doing it wrong, so i held the
option-command=r-p and power key on. it didn't reset the prom but it
did show the screen. so i took my hand off the buttons and at the
bottom of the screen you could see the screen indicator go from bright
to dim and then you can't see anything on the screen.
OK, so i did this again but after awhile my hands got tired of holding
keys down, so i released the option+command+ r and the screen stayed
visible because i was still holding the power+p down. I then released
the power and the screen went dark.
I redid this and kept holding the power key and p down, after computer
loaded everything, i had it rebuild desktop and then attempted a
restart.
Still no screen. I tried running norton while holding power+p, but it
hung up about half way through.
I unplugged it and took batteries out, retried it--no screen.
I did this and left it unplugged last night, plugged it back in this
morning- no screen. You can hear it load and it does load everything
because i can hear the voice telling me so.
Has this anything to with the pram battery ? I know that the date was
off and it has been off before when the computer has set for quite
awhile.
It also has been setting plugged in for 12 hrs. but still no screen.
I was able to mount this on my desktop and run norton on it had a few
minor problems which were corrected but still no screen.

When doing the option+command+r+p, it won't do it or you can not hear
the restart chime.

I have tried this also.
PowerBook 500 series

1. Remove the AC adapter and the battery.
2. Let the PowerBook sit without power connected for 3 to 5 minutes.
3. Simultaneously press and hold Command-Option-Control-Power On for 5
to 10 seconds.
4. Reinstall the battery and, if necessary, reconnect the AC adapter.

any help appreciated.
