How about this? Download the 7.5 installer files to the iMac along with the 7.6 upgrade. Create a new CD image with either Toast or Disk burner. Copy the downloads to the CD image. Copy an older copy of disk copy to the CD image. Copy a system 7.5, 7.6, 8.0, or 8.1 from Norton Utilities, TechTool or other Utilities CD to the CD image. In a pinch an OS 9.0 or 9.1 System will do.
Burn your CD. install it in the 1400 CD drive and start the 1400 by holding down the Command-Option-Shift and Delete keys to boot from the CD. (C key doesn't work.) Install the System software. restart!! HTH John -- One OS to rule them all, One OS to find them. One OS to bring them all and in anti-competitive practices bind them.
