Jake,

having painted a few desktop macs (6100, p460, AudioVision 14, Apple
Multiscan 17, and others), here's a tip. Make sure you use a sealer!

I used some Krylon spray paints (~$3/can @ Walmart) - Flat Black, no
gloss in particular - on my cases. The paint took and sticks with no
problem. And looking at them is impressive... It looks like you are
staring into a black hole! The AudioVision 14 is especially nice
looking... ;-) Anyway, the paint tends to rub off when you touch it,
less so over time. This is probably a concern if you are using a
laptop - you don't want residue on your pants!

I never bothered with a sealer on mine... I don't handle them all
that often anyhow, and the amount of paint that comes off on the hand
is easy to just brush off (it's like a powder). But a good sealer is
probably a good idea.

Peter Liethen did something like this to his 2300c. Painted it red.
Looks pretty good. <http://www.liethen.com/firebook-mana/> Go take a
look.

You can probably get some tips from the page detailing the mods to the
lid, including painting procedures and how he put a translucent apple
in the back of the lid... <http://www.liethen.com/firebook-mana/lid/in
dex.html>

It looks like he used a different kind of paint than I did though, and
doesn't have to worry about it rubbing off.

HTH!

Peace,
Drew
