I don't believe you need to remove any lower case
parts... The bezel for the LCD plastic should slide
from where it meets the lower housing without doing
anything on the bottom end if your careful... All that
was left was removing the plastic bezel around the
screen.  Be very careful doing that... there are small
clips all around the screen that hold the bezel in
place.  They are easy to break, and, if you break one,
the bezel won't seat properly anymore...

I usually start at the bottom center of the screen.  I
work my index finger in between the screen and the
case plastic, then placing my thumb on the outside of
the plastic, rock wy thumb in and down while pulling
out carefully with my index finger, this usually
starts the process of popping the clips, then you can
continue around the bezel, working from the inside of
the screen until they are all off.  Once this is done,
it should be easy to look at the catch and see what is
broken / needs replacing... Maybe your lucky and
nothings broken - it just needs to be reseted...  But
chances are, you'll need a new plastic catch...
