Thats it in a nutshell... the official fix ;-)
Yes, as Tom and Victoria mentioned, the foam sticks to
the plastic shield on the underside of the keyboard,
the sitcky side doesn't touch the ram. It is applied
to the keyboard so that when it is seated, the foam
adds extra pressure directly on top of the front of
the RAM module where it plugs into the Motherboard.
This added downforce helps to keep the RAM in place.
(Of course, I'm still disgusted with the use of that
type of connector in this unit, but ... ;-) )

Your keyboard should never come loose regardless of
whether the sticky side were to the ram module or not.
The three screws acrossed the bottom of the case
should hold it very firmly. If your keyboard ever
seems to lift up, you should check to see that those
screws are fastened tightly, or check for broken
plastic on the keyboard where the screws attach.

As far as where you can get the foam piece, I imagine
you could get it from an Apple SHop, but it's just
single side adhesived, foam backing tape... 1/2" wide.
It comes in rolls and is sold in most hardware
stores. Victoria's "fix" using the stove gasket
material should work just fine. Anything not to thick
with a little "give" should do the trick, just make
sure it's not conductive to electricity! If you have
a small sheet of static proof foam laying around from
a component purchase, that should work just fine to.

So glad it was a loose RAM module. It's always a
relief to find a definate cheap and easy fix to an
irratating problem.

If you had that thing apart to reseat the RAM, you
were only one screw away from the PRAM battery at that
point. Now that you know how easy it is, don't waste
time. Change that sucker ;-)

Cheers,
Sionnach
