Remy,

Thanks for the suggestion, but, alas, I only have 1 battery, not 2.
It has been in the bay for almost a year without deciding to
spontaneously charge itself... The confusion may have stemmed from my
trying the same battery in both bays, with no change in status as
recognized by the CPU or the batteries own LEDs. (I had inserted the
battery in the left bay and and the WS seemed to recognize it. I took
out the battery and the WS thought it was still in the left bay. Then
I put the battery in the right bay, and the WS STILL thought it was in
the left bay. I guess my WS has gone a bit senile.)

That's why I was so surprised yesterday when the battery showed a
flicker of life. I had thought it was completely
dead/toast/nuked/kaput. Well, the little LED charge indicators worked
for about 2 minutes yesterday before the battery returned to the
"netherworld" if you will.

Still not working at all, I'm afraid. I have no idea what happened -
I was hoping someone else had some experience w/ dead Wallstreet
batteries.

Yeah, you aren't kidding the charging circuitry is "a bit suspect" ;-)
 But don't get me started.

Thanks,
Drew
