The UAMs let you send passwords across the network in different formats. I'm going to assume that you want to use DHX, because that seems to be the new Apple default. Well, there's a mechanism whereby you can add different little subprograms into a folder, and they'll handle the authentification. Until a couple of releases ago, DHX needed one of these modules but now it's been rolled into the main Appleshare release.
