Ideas, anyone? >> Use TCP/IP exclusively. 1) set your Modem control panel to Modem Port or Card Slot, as appropriate; make sure the correct modem script is in your Modem Scripts folder, and select that specific modem, 2) set your TCP/IP control panel to Connect via PPP and Configure Using DHCP Server; set Search Domains to aol.com, if necessary, 3) set your Remote Access control panel to your AOL primary screen name and primary screen name password, your local AOL access phone number, and check Save Password, if desired, and 4) launch AOL and change the method of access from modem to TCP/IP. This is a little more complicated than the old AOL way, but by simply changing the Configurations from the Remote Access control panel's File pull-down menu, you can almost instantly change from dial access to wideband access. With some ISPs and on older MacOSes, you may have to install and launch the ISP's application by dial once in order to access the ISP's domain name server (this is automatically entered for MacOS 9, but seems to be manually entered for MacOS 7.6.1). Somewhere in between, this became automatic. MacOS 8.1, perhaps. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
