This may not help at all, but you might do a search for a control panel called "Sleeper". It does the same things as Energy saver but has more features and who knows, it might work when the Energy saver won't. I use it on my Imac to automatically shut down the machine after it has been powered on with Energy Saver, as apparently Energy Saver won't do both, at least it won't on my Imac.
