Jkr, Err... Didn't you already ask this question and get it answered earlier in the week?
Check your inbox or the archive. Look for previous posts this week Re: mklinux on pb 1400, and some from a few weeks ago about Linux on the 5300. I've discussed this at least once this week already. I posted a series of URLs with some instructions and info for loading Linux on a NuBus PowerBook. By 68k kernel, I hope you mean NuBus enabled! A 68k kernel will _NEVER_ boot a PowerPC Linux distro! You'll need BootX (control panel and extension for booting MkLinux) no matter what distro you use... Really, just go check those URLs. It _is_ possible to install Linux w/ your book in SCSI disk mode, but I wouldn't recommend doing it attached to a PCI based machine (i.e. your 9500). I don't know how the NuBus kernel will react to a PCI bus during the install. You should partition your disk _before_ installing Linux w/ a utility like HD SC Setup that can format A/UX partitions... You'll need 3 partitions: 1 Mac OS (small-ish in size for a minimal copy of Mac OS), 1 A/UX Swap, 1 A/UX Usr. If you partition while installing Linux (during the install process using the partitioner supplied w/ MkLinux), you'll wipe your drive EVERY time. Again, go check the URLs. The guy w/ the 6100 goes through a Step-by-Step install. The directions are in one of those URLs I posted - go look it up. BTW, OS X and Linux are not the same thing (even though they have a lot of the same buzzwords). Xpostfacto will not get Linux running on your book. Hope that helps, Drew P.S. - A handful of books significantly OLDER than the 1400 can run 'nix. For instance, the Duo 270 (w/ FPU) can run BSD... The easiest 'book on which to install is probably the PowerBook G3 (Bronze keyboard) (aka Lombard/101). The earliest 'book on which you can run a "supported install" of OS X (any version) is the PowerBook G3 Series (Wallstreet). -- Having graduated (with a physics BS :-P), I will be using the email address <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Please update your address book. <http://homepage.mac.com/alk/> "Anyone can fly, all you have to do is throw yourself at the ground and miss." -Douglas Adams, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
