This may not be of any use but who knows... anyway, I have a program called Expert Astronomer that always worked well with System 7.1 but when I upgraded to 7.6(?) and then to 8.1 I discovered it would often crash. I finally deduced that it would crash if I had the Control Strip active. If I turned off the Control Strip (i.e. Hide Control Strip), no problem.
