I've got Password Security and OS 8.6 on my 5300ce. I've noticed some strange behaviour at startup with the password dialog lately. Here's the scenario:
The 'book will be running fine, then get put to sleep. Sometimes (I haven't found any correlation between running software or length of sleep, it seems random at this point) when I try to wake it up later, it crashes without waking up. I have to restart (using the 3-fingered-salute or the reset button) the 'book manually. The book chimes and reboots, displaying the Password Security dialog as normal. This is where things get wierd... Typing in the correct password results in the message that the password is incorrect! It dumps me back into the password input dialog. I'll type it in again with the same results. On the 3rd try, the password takes and the Mac boots. This only happens when the Mac crashes while trying to wake from sleep. The option to query for the password at wakeup is _turned_off_. When the 'book is safely shut down and started back up, or is properly rebooted in software, the Password Security login works correctly. Is there something I don't know about Password Security? I know it's not supported in some hardware/OS combinations, but I don't know which. I'd appreciate any tips! I'll turn off Password Security if I have to, but I'm not thrilled about doing that.
