I don't know anything about AOL, but any version of Word up to and including whatever comes with Office 98 (and maybe beyond) should be fine. Seems to me 5.1 is the best of the lot -- no annoying assistant popping up to offer unasked-for advice, no attempt to correct your spelling while you're typing (though this last can be turned off thank goodness).
