if you have not enought memory to use your hard drive 's system folder
(which may be very big) you can use instead the "network access" floppy
image from the Apple site 's "older software downloads" page :
http://www.info.apple.com/support/oldersoftwarelist.html

That floppy contains a very light system 7.5 for any mac. Just add to that
system all the extensions and control panels you really need. Booting from
a RAM disk makes your mac being faster than ever. You can copy to the RAM
disk the softwares and documents you use too. That way you will not need to
read/write to your hard drive and you could put it in sleep mode which
increases a lot the battery autonomy.
