Tee hee... That was me. ;-)

I haven't mentioned it yet because ... I haven't gotten it to work yet.

Thanks so much for the VRAM though!

I soldered it in just fine and my initial testing w/ a circuit tester
showed everything green (note that the leads on the tester are quite
blunt). I booted the modded 5300 w/ the 800x600 ce display and got
the same behaviour I was getting with only 512K of VRAM.

So, either the VRAM isn't installed correctly, I'm missing something
else (like adding a cap somewhere), or the 5300cs just can't use the
5300ce display. I'm leaning toward the first possibility. And it's
only a matter of time until I take the machine back apart and
re-solder all the pads to make sure that it's making all the right
connections.

>From what I can tell, though, the 5300cs motherboard ought to handle
the ce display w/ the VRAM upgrade. It's probably just that a couple
of the legs on the 512K vram aren't touching their traces on the
mobo... Like I said, the circuit tester's probes are very blunt and
it's entirely possible that I wasn't actually seeing a good circuit -
the probe itself actually bridging the gap between the RAM chip's leg
and its mobo solder pad.

Right now i'm putting together a walkthrough of the 5300 innards on my
website. When I'm done, there'll be a pick of the VRAM I soldered
onto the board, so you can feel free to take a look. It's not up yet,
though...

Peace,
Drew
